ODOT Travel Preference Survey Now Live

This information is being shared on behalf of the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Contact: Don Hamilton, 503-704-7452

ODOT needs to know more about how travelers use Interstate 205 in Clackamas County as part of efforts to manage congestion and raise revenue for bottleneck relief projects.

On Friday, ODOT will launch an online “Travel Preference Survey,” asking users when, why and how often they use I-205 near the Abernethy Bridge and will ask how they feel about paying a toll to save travel time. Results will be used to study the potential effects of tolling on I-205.

In the days ahead, ODOT will send 37,000 postcards with a link to complete the survey online to a random sample of residents in Oregon and Southwest Washington. People who do not receive a postcard can still take the survey by using this link.

The survey will be available through April 24. It will be provided in English and Spanish and can be completed via smart phone, tablet or laptop.

The more people who respond to the survey, the more precise the results will be. Participants who complete the survey can also enter for a chance to win a $100 cash gift card.

ODOT will conduct another survey in the future to gather similar information about I-5.

Check out our Frequently Asked Questions about tolling.

The goal of the I-5 and I-205 Tolling Projects is to manage congestion and generate revenue to fund bottleneck relief projects, as directed by the Oregon Legislature in 2017.

House Bill 2017 committed hundreds of millions of dollars to address congestion and improve the transportation system in the Portland metro region and statewide through highway projects, freight rail projects and improvements to transit and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The bill also directed the Oregon Transportation Commission to pursue and implement congestion pricing, also known as variable rate tolls, on I-5 and I-205 in the Portland metro region to provide additional traffic management tools to further manage congestion.
