Washougal Police Department and City of Washougal will host National Night Out on Tuesday, August 1 with an ice cream social at Hathaway Park (732 25th Street) from 6-8pm. The event will also include a police dunk tank, free giveaways, safety demonstrations and a selfie station. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work. Neighbors throughout Washougal and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with law enforcement.
“On behalf of the members of the Washougal police department I want to invite everyone to participate in our second National Night Out event,” said Washougal Police Chief Wendi Steinbronn. “National Night Out is one small part of our overarching goal to enhance community engagement. This is a time to strengthen police-community relationships and meet your neighbors in a fun, welcoming environment.”
Donate a Helmet, Dunk a Cop
Again this year, event goers who donate and bring a new youth bike helmet to the city’s National Night Out will get three chances to dunk a Washougal police officer. Officers will pass out the helmets to Washougal children at a future city event.
“We continue to look for creative ways to engage Washougal residents, and the dunk tank is another great opportunity to deepen those relationships we’ve started cultivating,” said Community Engagement Manager Rose Jewell.
The event is sponsored locally by IQ Credit Union, Starbucks, Washougal Police Department and the City of Washougal.
