The City of Washougal will soon begin the process to fill City Council Position 5, following the Council’s Rules of Procedure and state law (RCW).
The appointment process will be overseen by Daniel Layer, Finance Director, and will include a three-week public solicitation for applicants, followed by council interviews and appointment. Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply.

- Application Period: December 30, 2025 – 5:00 PM, January 20, 2026
- Council Interviews and Appointment: January 26, 2026
The person appointed will serve until the results of the November 2027 election are certified (approximately three weeks after Election Day). This seat will be on the 2027 council election cycle, with the elected individual serving the last ~6 weeks of the current unexpired term (late November – December 31, 2027) and then a new four-year term (2028–2031).
