** UPDATED 9-20-19**
Starting at approximately 10:00am on Monday, September 23rd a contractor will apply a fog seal to the streets that recently received a chip seal.
A fog seal cure time depends on the weather. It can cure in less than 30 minutes or take up to 2-3 hours. While the fog seal is curing, the streets must remain closed.*
*Washougal River Road, Lehr Road and Lawton Road will have pilot cars escorting traffic around the fog seal as it cures.

Starting Thursday, September 19-20*, the City of Washougal will have an independent contractor apply chip seal, sweep and apply a fog seal to some City streets. For these two days parking will not be allowed on the street from 7am to 7pm. Please see the map below to find out what streets will receive the Chip Seal.
All streets will be temporarily closed during this process and flaggers will direct traffic through the construction zone.
When the Chip Seal is compelte, a Fog Seal will be applied; this process will not start in the early morning but late morning/early afternoon. Depending on the weather the fog seal can cure as quickly as 30 minutes or take up to 2-3 hours. During the cure time all vehicular and pedestrian traffic must stay off the surface. Flaggers will control traffic flow through the construction zone.
What is a Chip Seal?
Chip seal is a pavement surface treatment constructed by evenly distributing a thin base of hot bitumen and then embedding finely graded aggregate into it. The aggregate is evenly distributed over the seal spray and then rolled into a smooth pavement surface. This treatment seals out water and provides a good wear surface with skid resistance. The chip rock will then be covered with a fog seal to extend the life of the new surface.
Our goal is to minimize the inconvenience this might cause and provide you with an improved road surface. Your participation and understanding are greatly appreciated.
This road work depends on dry road conditions. We will reschedule if there is inclement weather or mechanical breakdown.
