Get to Know Your Irrigation

Lawn IrrigationUse these tools to make a more informed decision when it comes to usage and irrigation.

To calculate your gallons used for irrigation you will need the following:

  • Nozzle size for the sprinkler heads in your system
  • Psi reading from your Annual Backflow Report (or psi from a hose bibb pressure gauge). Request your PSI here.
  • Number of zones in the irrigation system
  • Number of sprinkler heads per zone
  • Minutes each zone is set to run
  • Days per week the system is set to run

Scenario #1

Using 65psi, if the irrigation system has 4 sprinkler heads per zone, with 4 zones and water for 10 minutes per zone this would equate to a usage of 337.6 gallons (0.45 ccf) used for one complete day of watering.

  • Under the smallest size nozzle (3/32”), if the system was set to irrigate 3 times per week for 8 weeks (24 times over the billing cycle) you would use 10.83 ccf just for irrigation.

Scenario #2

Using Scenario #1’s 65psi and changing the nozzle size 11/64”, it would equate to 1,129.6 gallons (1.51 ccf) used for one complete day of watering.

  • Under the middle of the range size nozzle (11/64”), if the system was set to irrigate 3 times per week for 8 weeks (24 times over the billing cycle) you would use 36.24 ccf just for irrigation.
