The City of Washougal has officially completed the transition to a modern Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) water system, enhancing service for residents and businesses across the city. This upgrade means more accurate billing, real-time leak detection, and a new level of transparency in water usage—right at your fingertips.
What Is AMI?
AMI replaces the outdated manual "drive-by" meter reading system with a fully remote, 24/7 monitoring solution. Every water meter in Washougal—residential and commercial—has been upgraded as part of a multi-year effort to modernize water services. These smart meters automatically send readings every 12 hours using a secure radio network, eliminating the need for monthly physical readings.
Why It Matters
- Faster Leak Detection: Potential leaks can now be identified within 24 hours, compared to up to 60 days under the old system.
- Improved Billing Accuracy: With more frequent data, your bill reflects actual usage more precisely.
- Greater Customer Control: Residents can now track their daily water use, set up alerts for unusual activity, and manage consumption in real time—even when away from home.
